Sociology is the study of “1. What is the structure of society and how is it maintained?” “2. How do people make the world of their lives meaningful and live as members of that society?” and “3. What are the factors that change society and how can social change be achieved through people’s social actions?”. When creating a sustainable society, a basic understanding of society and its members is essential. In this course, students will learn about the background of the birth of sociology and sociology concepts and theories for understanding society and people. Concretely, students will learn concepts such as culture, socialization, roles, status, social class, groups, organizations, and institutions, as well as social theory paradigms. Students will also study development sociology, environmental sociology, and tourism sociology.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand the basic concepts of sociology.
- Understand the basic paradigm of sociological theories.
- Understand the outline of the fields of development sociology, environmental sociology, and sociology of tourism.
