Philosophy of Social Science

Reviews the philosophical foundations of empirical social science. The course emphasizes topics as: the nature and uses of language with special reference to concepts of meaning, understanding, definition, and verification; theory building and causal inference; systems theory; structural-functional theory and other empirical theories; the problem of discovery, verification and experimental confirmation; the role of values in research and research design.

Designing Organizations for Impact

Students will study the structure and dynamics of organizational open systems. Students will learn to design formal organization structures that fit with the strategy of their business and the culture of their organization. There will be a focus on the external environment, technology, structure (and their interrelationship), organizational culture and change management. The students will recognize and manage bottlenecks hampering organizational growth achievement of overall organizational goals.             

Designing Organizations

This course focuses on how organizations are structured or designed so that they can establish and successfully execute their strategies. This course will discuss the basic factors that should be taken into account while designing an organization. It will highlight some of the fundamental principles in designing the overall structure of an organization. Finally, we’ll learn how to design the coordination and control and performance measurement systems to manage the organization

Introduction to Social Entrepreneurship

Social enterprises play an important role in solving social problems and bringing about social changes. This course focuses on the importance of mission management and aims to understand both theory and practice related to social enterprises. Students explore business ideas to solve social issues and analyze the concrete cases of how such ideas have been implemented.
