Technology in education: a case study on Thailand

This report focuses on the major educational challenges in relation to technology – enabled learning facing Thailand and the efforts being made to address them. The challenges discussed include access to reliable broadband internet and computing devices, quality education resources, and teacher competency in integrating technology in pedagogy. The report highlights the disparities in access to these resources across regions and socio-economic backgrounds and the need for policies that prioritize equitable distribution. Additionally, the report highlights the need to address the issue of child online protection, which is not adequately addressed in the current Thai curriculum. The declining trend of investment in education in Thailand is also discussed, and the importance of continued investment at both the national and subnational level is emphasized. However, there are also positive efforts being made, such as collaboration with the private sector at the higher education level and the use of the iSEE database to implement targeted programs to support resource-constrained students as well as out-of -school children. Overall, this report highlights the challenges and opportunities for improving the quality of education in Thailand through equitable access to technology and resources, investment in education, and collaboration among stakeholders.
